Crumbly Apple Pie

Crumbly Apple Pie

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3.5 cups tart apples, peeled and sliced thin
1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 1/2 Tbsp flour
1 Tbsp butter
1 prepared pie crust

Crumb Topping:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup oats

  1. In a large bowl combine sugars and cinnamon, then mix in apples. Toss so that apples are well coated. Let sit for 20 minutes.
  2. Preheat oven to 375* F. In another large bowl, combine brown sugar and flour for crumb topping. Using butter knives or a pastry cutter, cut butter into the sugar/flour mixture until the largest piece is about pea-sized. Add oats, combine well with hands or spoons.
  3. When apple sugar mixture is nice and juicy, stir in lemon juice then flour. Mix well.  Pour into prepared pie crust. Cut up the Tbsp of butter into small chunks and distribute evenly on top of apple filling. Sprinkle crumb mixture over top and place in oven. Bake 35 minutes, then increase temp to 400* and bake another 10-15 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
  4. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
